Vision

6th Day Dance is envisioned as a professional modern dance company that impacts audiences in a positive and uplifting way.  The company will be distinctive by pursuing excellence in dance performances, choreography, student training, and organization operations.  The artistic style of the dance company will be heavily influenced by the techniques of modern, ballet, and jazz dance which will include extreme athletics, gymnastics, drama, aerial work and martial arts. Full length touring productions will be intertwined with composed music, innovative choreography, elaborate sets, designed lighting and original costumes and performed to audiences regionally, nationally and internationally.

The dance company members will be skilled professionals with extensive backgrounds in ballet, modern and jazz dance.  Members will consist of both men and women dance artists.  Dancers will train daily with master classes followed by an extensive rehearsal schedule.  In addition to this strong commitment to each dancer’s technical training and artistic development, company members will be provided with the opportunity to access the organization’s gym, pool, Pilates Center and physical therapy clinic for additional physical health needs.  Dancers will receive competitive pay, health insurance and employee benefits. Company members will also have the option of renting a studio apartment for a reduced rate in the organizations’ apartment complex.  Sixth Day Dance will consist of both a touring company and an apprentice company that will perform at least three local shows per season in Seattle, Washington.

To support our operations we envision owning a building with 2 dance studios, a 400-seat theater, office space, 10 studio apartments, and a complete health center, which includes a gym, pool, a Pilate’s center and a physical therapy clinic.  These services will also be accessible to the general public in addition to the dancers to foster multiple business relationships within the community.  We seek to collaborate with or own a dance school in which to employ our dance company members and train future members.

A Board of Directors will govern 6th Day Dance.  Directors will be highly committed and spiritually grounded Christians who seek to fulfill the vision and be fiduciary responsible to the organization. Directors will be skilled business professionals and artists that have extensive backgrounds in the roles they assume for the organization.  The Board will consist of committee chairs for the following committees: business development, marketing, fundraising, grants, finance, spiritual, outreach, public relations, volunteer, and program Directors.

The organization will utilize several employees in addition to the dancers.  A full time Executive Director will implement board policy and oversee the employees and general operations of the organization.  The full time Artistic Director will work directly with the dancers and choreographers to create the visual and artistic style of the company.  The Artistic Director will be given ownership of the artistic vision and thus will be heavily involved with board decisions.  The Board Directors will work together with the Artistic Director regarding the artistic direction of the organization.  Part time positions will include an administrative assistant, accountant, booking agent, and rehearsal manager.  For production assistance the organization will also have an established list of contract workers, which will include musicians, composers, lighting and costume designers, seamstresses, and technical crew.

6th Day Dance will have a strong community presence and support in the local Seattle area.  Community performances will include participation in activities such as Bumbershoot, Fringe Festival, Folk Life, and varied community performances, to name a few.  The organization will have  significant audience support, name recognition, local financial support and community participation in fundraising events.  In addition, multiple volunteer positions will allow community members to take an active part in the organization by serving on committees and assisting in all operations of production and programming.  6th Day Dance will have established relationships with organized artist groups on both the eastside and Seattle such as Arts Resource Network, Artist Trust, Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, Washington State Arts Commission, Christians In the Theatre Arts, and 4 Culture to name a few.

6th Day Dance will serve the community via multiple and varied dance education programs for at risk youth, underprivileged, and the special needs population.  The programs are envisioned as summer dance camps, community classes and workshops, and customized special needs classes.  These programs educate, inspire, and challenge individuals to dance with passion and skill so that they can have a positive effect in their community and within themselves.

6th Day Dance will strive to pursue and present excellence in the art community.  Our reputation will be built on excellence in quality, skill, innovation and artistry.  The organization will be a leading force in developing and pioneering the art form of dance.  Our organization will be seen as a model and leader for other arts groups.

In order to successfully fulfill our vision 6th Day Dance will need a large fiduciary budget of one million dollars a year.  The organization will have extensive corporate, community and individual donors.  Specific corporate donors will include The Boeing Company, Safeco, Microsoft, The Starbucks Company, Alaska Airlines  and Amazon. In addition 6th Day will seek local, state and federal grants for funding and have aggressive and established fundraising events in the community.  Grants may include support from: The National Endowment for the Arts, Washington State Arts Commission, the Allen Foundation for the Arts, Artsfund, 4Culture of King County, The Mayor’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, the City of Redmond Arts Commission, Allied Arts Foundation, Artist Trust, and King County Arts Commission.
